The first of our two events was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, bringing together stakeholders including the Karen Refugee Committee, Mae La Camp Committee, The Border Consortium, UNHCR, and academics. At the 75th Annual International Communication Association Conference in Denver, we presented our paper, Lines of Displacement: Visualising the Lived Realities of Encamped Refugees, as part of the panel Visual Communication Studies: Innovations and Reflections on the Visual in Research with Southeast Asia’s Socially Marginalised. Our presentation focused on the participatory visual methods used in the project, particularly participatory drawing and analysis as a mode of expression and research.
