Excerpt from artists' narrative account
We live here, and we have fun here. But we want to have identification, like an ID card. We have drawn the same gate, but there is a difference; one person has an ID, and another does not. Therefore, their experiences are different. If you have an ID, you are free to travel. If you don’t have an ID, they will stop you. That’s not right.
Once, I was riding a motorbike and we wanted to leave through the [place name anonymised] gate, but one of the security guards came to us and spoke harshly. It would be better if they talked to us more politely.
Audio
“As a human being, if you have an ID, you become a citizen. Like, if you have a Burma ID, you’ll become a Burma citizen, and if you have a Thai ID, you will become a citizen of Thailand. We want to have identification so that we can study further, if we have ID cards, or we will travel with a passport, or we will live, just like that.”
